Robert Gourley's photography career began in 2014 taking photos of bottlenose dolphins for a marine biology internship on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His interest in visual communications is rooted in science and environmental issues. 

His work has been recognized by the Hearst Journalism Awards, Online Journalism Awards, Carolina Global Photography Competition, the 37th Frame photojournalism showcase, North Carolina College Media Association and National Geographic's YourShot.

Robert's work has been featured by the Associated Press, Universal Music Group, Rolling Stone and PBS NewsHour. He has interned with Miles O'Brien Productions in Boston helping research, shoot and edit science news segments for national television. He has also interned at the Durham Herald-Sun, a McClatchy newspaper.

Robert is the incoming 2018 summer video intern at the Los Angeles Times.
